A message from our Headteacher, David Ashley

I am very proud to have been the Headteacher at Greenslade Primary School for over 25 years!

I am constantly inspired by the exciting, vibrant and inclusive atmosphere we have created. I love being part of such a welcoming, warm and friendly community. I lead a team of aspiring and passionate professionals who are committed to our shared values for life and our vision for learning. Together we are determined to achieve the highest possible outcomes for all of our families.

We are a successful, supportive and friendly inner city school with a diverse balance of amazing children who consistently strive to be the very best they can be. Our size, a one form entry primary school with a Nursery class, enables relationships to be a great strength. People at Greenslade   are included, valued and respected. Our children are motivated and love to learn. They work hard, play creatively and behave well.

We are fantastically supported by our wonderful parents and carers who engage with us in a wide range of activities that continually develop and enhance our children’s learning. Throughout the school, our families are fully involved in helping our children move forward socially, emotionally and academically. This bond forms a very strong partnership. We are currently working hard to expand our range of after school activities which have, in the past, included Art, Drama, Football, Gymnastics, Music, Gardening, Homework Clubs and Booster Classes.

We have been inspired, in recent years, by our very own bespoke curriculum, designed carefully by our staff to meet the needs of our children, living in Plumstead today. We have used the most up to date research of how children learn best to create units of work that are knowledge based, logically sequenced and progressive, building on previously learned skills and ideas. Our units are appropriately linked to achieve continuity in the work and meaningful “joined up” learning experiences. What needs to be learned is systematic and explicit. Children learn collaboratively whenever possible and speaking and listening, questioning, problem solving and thinking logically are all at the heart of learning at Greenslade. Our aim is for children to enjoy school so they become successful lifelong learners.

We are passionately inclusive and I am very proud of our reputation for the support we give to our most vulnerable children and families. We are determined that all of our children receive the highest quality provision so that they achieve at the highest possible levels.

At Greenslade we work extremely hard to keep our children safe and are committed to promoting their welfare. All of our staff receive a programme of regular safeguarding and child protection training and briefings and new staff are always subject to safeguarding scrutiny as part of our safer recruitment procedures.

Greenslade children are successful learners and consistently make greater than expected rates of progress. They achieve well. Our most able children, as well as those that are seen to be vulnerable, achieve at significantly higher levels than their peers nationally. In our last Ofsted Inspection in February 2019 we were judged to be a “Good” school. We have the potential to be outstanding and are determined to be so!

Greenslade is an amazing place to learn and I love working here!
